Choosing the Best Halloween Wig on the Block
When you’re truly dedicated to your Halloween costume, you’re willing to do whatever it takes to become your character. Often that means more than just what you’re wearing or accessories that you are caring. To really become the character in appearance and spirit, you need the perfect Halloween wig. And Wig-A-Do has the best Halloween wigs in the area, let alone the block!
Why Wear a Wig?
There are tremendous benefits to wearing a wig along with your holiday costume. First, a wig adds an authentic look to your character, getting you one step closer to winning that costume contest! Secondly, you can get the hair color and style just right without any damage or long term commitment to your own hair. This can save you money and time, especially trying to get your hair back to normal AFTER Halloween. Plus, your hair is one less element that you have to worry about when you’re putting your ensemble together.
How to Choose Your Halloween Wig
Choosing your Halloween wig and choosing your Halloween costume really go hand in hand. When considering which character you want to portray, think about a character who you would actually feel comfortable resembling for several hours. You may also want to consider a character that already resembles you in one way or another, like body type, facial structure or even personality. On the other hand, Halloween is a great time to be someone completely different! Try to find a wig that fits your character’s look as much as possible so that you don’t have to alter the wig. Trimming and styling can be time consuming if your desired style is much different than your costume wig’s style.
Caring for a Costume Wig
Costume wigs are similar to human hair or synthetic wigs, although costume wigs are not made for daily wear and not as durable. NEVER use heated styling tools like hair dryers or curling irons on a costume wig. The heat will melt the synthetic hair fibers and ruin the wig, possibly your styling tools, too. You can gently comb or brush straight texture wigs. If you want a little more volume, use Velcro rollers with a spritz of water, letting the wig air dry to set. Don’t comb a curly wig, just use water to tame and shape the curls. You can use hairspray to set your wig style.
To wear your costume wig, gather your hair evenly around your head, such as in corn rows, braids or pin curls. Then stretch a wig cap over your head and hair, making sure to tuck in your own hair (but not your ears). Put the wig on from front to the back and secure with bobby pins, if necessary.
